The government has today updated its guidance for local licencing authorities on the Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) duties under the Equality Act 2010. This is in preparation for the commencement of the Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles (Disabled Persons) Act 2022 on 28 June, which will amend the Equality Act 2010.
This guidance is made up of both statutory and non-statutory guidance, providing advice on how to:
- designate vehicles as wheelchair accessible
- communicate new requirements to drivers and operators
- handle exemption applications from drivers
- enforce the requirements
