Brent Council is consulting on proposals to regulate the number of off-licenses in hotspots that suffer from alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.

The consultation is part of the council’s review of Licensing Policy.

Included in the proposals are:

-    ten 'Cumulative Impact Zones' (CIZ) would be introduced across the borough

-    introducing a minimum unit price (MUP) of 70p for alcohol sales where premises repeatedly breach licensing conditions - a London first

-    premises applying for an alcohol license would be strongly encouraged to consider adopting a voluntary MUP of 70p, and the Council would look on these applications more favourably.

Cllr Tom Miller, Lead Member for Community Safety and Engagement, said: "We recognise the important role that pubs, off-licenses and other premises play in our local communities. The proposals are designed to help responsible businesses doing the right thing.

"However, issues like street drinking have a big impact on residents' ability to enjoy their local area. Where premises are not operating responsibly, we must have tools in our arsenal to be able to deal with the problem. I encourage everyone to have their say in the consultation."
