This case is thought to be the first prison term for Covid breaches - albeit through the civil not criminal courts. This case concerns sentencing in County Court for breach of a civil injunction imposed on a residential tenant for repeated breaches of Covid rules on illegal gathering rules in his home.
Mr Offomah was subject to an injunction “which provided for the standard terms of an antisocial behaviour order in relation to behaviour causing a nuisance, the selling or producing of any illegal drugs, excessive noise, and the presence of visitors.” He was also issued with a number of fixed penalty notices issued by the police for breaches of Covid restrictions.
