In the letter, Jenrick wrote: "For many campsites to operate for more than 42 consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days within a 12 month period, the operator must also apply to their local authority for a camping license under section 269 of the Public Health Act 1936. This deadline may now be approaching for campsites which opened this summer.

"I expect any such licensing application to be processed expediently, ensuring they do not become a barrier to increased holiday capacity in England this year. I also want to remind all councils that should they fail to issue a license within one month, the applicant may proceed with their proposal without a license."

He also said "On 28 June I made a statement to the House of Commons encouraging local authorities to exercise their discretion when it comes to enforcing planning rules against the temporary opening and extension of campsites over the holiday season."
