The IoL is delighted to bring you the latest LINK magazine, with an important message from our Chairman within the foreword, where he reiterates the need to work together and the simple fact that ‘The gains made from true partnership could be the difference between success and failure for your high streets and public spaces.’
The partnership theme continues throughout this edition, with excellent articles from Kate Winstanley who shows us how the CAPS scheme has continued to succeed and grow despite the pandemic. A request for collaboration from Kevin Hocter follows as he shares his experiences and hopes of future partnership working concerning insurance fraud within the taxi and private hire industry, while Louis Krog tells us more about the project in Gloucester to agree common licensing standards.
Also in this edition, Dan Davies explores the broken window strategy and explains how his team in New Brighton have applied the theories to assist regeneration in the town, and in a later article he looks in more detail at the partnership work he has been involved in with Wirral Council and other local partners, and how that joined up, collaborative working has enabled the transformation on the ground.
Gary Jacobs gives us his insights into the Supreme Court decision on the status of Uber worker – this follows Gary’s appearance at the recent taxi conference where we also heard first-hand from Michelle Bignell and Jason Kirkwood about the Gloucester common standards project. Finally, we take a look at the proposals for reform of alcohol licensing in Northern Ireland following the IoL’s appearance before the Committee for Communities – brilliantly represented by Stephen McGowan and Eoin Devlin from TLT Solicitors.
Enjoy this edition of LINK. Please let us know if you would be interested in writing an article, or if you have any suggestions on subjects you’d like us to cover. Feedback is always very welcome, and we can be contacted via email to link@insitituteoflicensing.org.
