A Policy Advisor, Animal Welfare – Zoo, Circus and other kept Wild Animals at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs wrote to licensing authorities saying:

"I’m writing to update you on the Standards of Modern Zoo Practice for Great Britain consultation which was launched on 1 March. 

"Several consultees have been in touch regarding the deadline for the consultation. We recognise the magnitude of the changes proposed to the Standards and the importance of consulting with our stakeholders and allowing sufficient time for full consideration of the proposed changes. We have decided to extend the closing date by 4 weeks. The new deadline will be 21 June and Citizen Space will be updated accordingly."
