A series of guides and briefings have been provided by the NPCC and College of Policing for frontline police officers to assist them in supporting the public health response to COVID-19, including:
- A briefing and summary for police on The Coronavirus Act 2020, which provides forces with additional powers relating to potentially infectious persons
- A briefing and summary for police on the new Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 – including what the changes mean for the public, an outline of the policing approach, enforcement and police personal safety
- Coronavirus Regulations: briefing for Wales – this covers the distinctions between two-metre distancing, exercising, powers of entry, closures of public paths and land and issuing fines
The police's approach to all COVID-19 powers is for officers to engage with the public, explain the social distancing regulations and the responsibilities we all share, and encourage those who are out without good reason to go back home. Enforcement will only be used as a last resort
- What constitutes a reasonable excuse? A useful practical guide from the Crown Prosecution Service
- Personal protective equipment – this operational guidance document explains when PPE is necessary for officers and staff, in both external/public-facing and internal roles. It includes a useful chart for determining the appropriate PPE in different operational situations
- Public health guidance for officers and staff
- Updates on International work
- Questions and answers from the Department for Transport regarding police enforcement of travel and retail restrictions because of COVID-19
