The Role
An exciting opportunity has opened in the Licensing Team for a Senior Licensing Position following the retirement of the existing post holder. The post holder will carry out a number of critical functions including ensuring the timely processing and issue of all licences including those under, the Licensing Act, the Gambling Act, taxis legislation, charitable collection law, animal welfare law, and various other premises and business licences. Ensuring the effective enforcement of licence provisions and conditions and coordinate enforcement with other agencies in relation to unlicensed premises and events.
Working closely with Police licensing and conducting night time visits with the team where required to ensure compliance with the LA2003, attend court proceedings and / or committees in connection with prosecutions or applications for all licensing functions as directed by the Environmental Health and Licensing Manager. To prepare reports for the Licensing Committee of the Council and carry out the necessary procedures to arrange for hearings under the provisions of the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, Taxi Licensing Law and other licensing legislation.

Who are you?
What your main attribute will be is that you can demonstrate a good knowledge of licensing legislation with extensive and significant experience working in Licensing.
You’ll have the ability to work under your own initiative making decisions on complex enforcement and other matters, as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines as set out in the Enforcement Policy and other Council targets. You’ll have good knowledge of licensing, and this job would ideally suit someone who has worked as licensing officer for some years and is now looking to progress their career.
You’ll have excellent communication and customer-care skills, the ability to work flexibly, which includes working from home, as part of a busy and high performing team, while we will provide you with opportunities to undertake relevant training to help you develop in your role and further progress your career. The job will be wide-ranging and exciting, with an opportunity to deal with all types of licensing issues, managing your own caseload while working with others in the Service and supporting other Services on Borough wide matters. The team is fast paced and seeks to work positively with the licensing trade the wider business community and local residents.
