Job description The City of York Council are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and reliable person to join our busy Licensing Team as a Senior Licensing Assistant. The successful candidate will deal with a number of different licensing functions from alcohol to gambling, from taxis to animal welfare. Dealing with customers on a daily basis to provide advice and information, process applications, issue licences and carry out some low level enforcement work. Key skills and experience required; · The successful applicant should have knowledge of local authority licensing and of working in an office environment. · Excellent communication skills and experience of dealing with confrontation. · Good computer literacy skills and experience of maintaining accurate and detailed records within computerised databases. · The ability to maintain accuracy, even when working under pressure is essential. The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service. As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
