An opportunity has arisen in the Environmental Health and Licensing department, for a Licensing Officer.

About the role

You will be part of a small team working within West Devon Borough Council and South Hams District Council areas in the Environmental Health and Licensing Service and will be responsible for a wide range of licensing functions.

To manage as directed by the Principal Licensing Officer, a caseload in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, corporate policies, local systems, policies and guidance and good professional practice. The work will include but is not limited to responding to complaints, undertaking inspections and investigatory work, complying with agreed plans on enforcement action, collating evidence of licensing breaches, attending meetings, verification of licensing applications and associated checks, and carrying out other team activities commensurate with the grade.

With previous experience in Licensing and enforcement in local government you will bring an enthusiastic, self-motivated and can-do attitude in return for flexible working, training opportunities and a generous benefits package, including car allowance.

You will also be adept at utilising technology for service delivery and able to make timely and confident decisions on complex matters as well as having excellent communication and influencing skills.  In addition, you must be able to work positively and collaboratively and plan work efficiently and effectively.

Experience of working in a local authority licensing environment would be beneficial.

The role is agile so you would need a space to work remotely, but would also be required to travel to both office locations (Totnes / Tavistock) and to travel within both district areas as required.

The Licensing Team have recently adopted a challenging business plan to put the resources in place to ensure that our technology is implemented to provide a better service to the customer, allow staff to work to the best quality and productivity and, in the longer term, allow us to meet future financial challenges. The post holder will be expected to contribute to this approach.
