Licensing Officer

We are seeking a Licencing Officer who will work under the general direction of the Principal Licensing Officer to contribute to an effective and efficient licensing service. The small Licensing team sits within a wider comprehensive Environmental Health Service and is responsible for administering and enforcing a variety of licensing regimes. The most prominent are those related to hackney carriage and private hire vehicles (including drivers and operators) premises licences for alcohol, entertainment late night refreshment under the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005 as well as regimes relating to scrap metal, street trading and other miscellaneous matters.
An enthusiastic, committed and self-motivated individual capable of managing a diverse and challenging workload is sought to assist our small team in the delivery of the full range of local authority licensing functions.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a local authority licensing team and be keen to utilise their skills and be accustomed to processing applications, providing advice to the public, colleagues and councillors, and carrying out a range of compliance / enforcement activity.
We expect applicants to have good working knowledge of all the licensing regimes dealt with by the Council, or, if specialist in one area, a willingness to take on and learn other areas.
Applicants must have good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interpret and convey complex information both verbally and in writing. Excellent organisational skills, the ability to manage one’s own workload, prioritise and solve problems are a necessity in the role.
The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).
