The licensing team works to improve public health and to protect the safety of our residents and visitors, whilst supporting businesses and licence holders to operate safely and in compliance with the relevant licensing regime.

We are looking for a dynamic and positive Licensing Officer to join our team, to help us deliver a high class, modern, customer-focussed service. As a Licensing Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring that the Council meets its statutory obligations, taking action where requirements are not met as well as offering advice and guidance where needed.

Whilst the role is to support the delivery of the full range of licensing functions, the primary focus will be on taxi licensing and alcohol and entertainment licensing.  This role is on a fixed term contract for a period of 24 months.

About You

A highly skilled and motivated individual, with a good eye for detail and a desire to deliver a high standard of service.  Experience in licensing or regulatory services will be an advantage, but a willingness to become involved with the full range of licensing activities is just as important.  On a day to day basis you can expect to be involved with inspections of licensed premises and vehicles, the granting or refusal of licences and confirming licence conditions are met, taking matters further where they are not.

You will be responsible for resolving a high number of enquiries via telephone and email, where a consistently high level of performance is expected.  Therefore you will need to have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with a sound grasp of IT.  Problem solving, adaption to competing priorities and confidentiality are important skills in this role.

You will benefit from 24 days annual leave (rising to 29 after 5 years’ service), subsidised gym membership and car parking, payment of professional fees, entitlement to join the local government pension scheme and non-contributory life assurance.

About the Team

We are a small and friendly Licensing team well positioned in a supportive wider environment of colleagues in the Environmental Health, Community Safety and Enforcement areas.  We are based in modern office accommodation in Epsom, Surrey within easy reach of a range of direct railway and road links.  Owing to the front line nature of the work, we operate a flexible working arrangement where officers can work from home for part of the week but it will be a requirement for you to work from our offices on a regular and frequent basis.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds, but preference will be given to individuals who hold a BII Level 2 National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners Higher Qualification or equivalent.   As part of the role it may be occasionally be necessary to work evenings or weekends with notice.

Closing Date: 20 February 2023

Interviews: week commencing 27 February 2023
