LICENSING OFFICER
East Staffordshire Borough Council is committed to creating a safe environment for those within the Borough and, therefore, is looking to recruit a Licensing Officer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of officers which exercise professional expertise in a range of duties and responsibilities. You must be self-motivated, and work well as part of a team or on your own initiative.
You will be a key player in a multi-disciplinary team delivering the full range of statutory licensing functions across the Borough. The work will be varied and includes taxis, alcohol and entertainment, gambling and scrap metal. You will be involved with processing applications from receipt to issue, including preparing and presenting reports to sub-committee, interpreting and applying relevant legislation and guidance and undertaking investigations or enforcement as appropriate.
Ideally you will bring with you knowledge and experience of the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005 and some or all of the other licensing functions provided by the service. You will be organised, accurate and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative. You may have an appropriate professional qualification or experience in a related field. You will be adaptable and organised with an eye for detail and capable of working under pressure. You must be willing to carry out duties at flexible times including occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Officers should ideally have previous experience of working in a local authority environment, and have knowledge of local authority licensing functions.
A good general level of education (5 GCSE’s or equivalent).
Basic IT is essential along with the ability to understand/interpret legislation together with good verbal and written communication skills.
Officers should have experience of decision making skills, be flexible, highly motivated, trust worthy and honest with the highest standard of integrity.
It is essential to be enthusiastic, able to remain calm under pressure, good organisational skills, able to work in a team and be able to self-motivate.
