Our Licensing Team works to improve public health and to protect the safety of residents and visitors, supporting businesses and licence holders to operate safely and efficiently, whilst also being fully compliant with the relevant licensing regime.
Our Licensing Team is passionate about delivering high class, customer-focused services and we are looking for a dynamic and positive Licensing Officer to join us. Experience of partnership working in resolving issues is key.
The primary purpose of this post is to support the delivery of the full range of licensing functions, ensuring compliance with national legislation, guidance and local policies. As a Licensing Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring that the council meets its statutory obligations, taking regulatory and enforcement action where requirements are not met as well as offering advice and guidance where needed.
A highly skilled and motivated individual with regulatory experience, ideally across of all areas of Local Authority licensing including the Licensing Act 2003, the Taxi and Private Hire regime, Gambling Act 2005, and Animal Welfare. You will be accustomed to carrying out a range of compliance and enforcement activity, managing a diverse and challenging workload.
With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you must be able to interpret and convey complex information both in oral and written form to educate and secure compliance across a range of disciplines. You will have a proven track record of partnership working and supporting colleagues in the Licensing Technical Team. In addition, you will possess excellent organisational and analytical skills, an ability to problem solve and adapt to competing priorities whilst remaining calm under pressure.

Attendance at some evening meetings and some out of hours work will be required. Time off in Lieu will be given for this or pre-arranged overtime can be agreed with your line manager.
An ability to meet the security standards to hold a Gatwick Airport Pass and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the role.
A full current UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle will be a requirement of the role. Essential Car Users Allowance included (subject to review)

BII Level 2 National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners Higher Qualification or equivalent and evidence of continuous professional development is desirable.
Having experience of working within local government enforcement or similar work is key to the role.
Applicants will need to be able to deal with the physical requirements of the role.
