The Public Protection department at the City of York Council have three exciting opportunities to join the re-vamped Licensing Enforcement team.
About the role;
The role involves the traditional aspects of dealing with complaints about businesses breaching their licensing obligations and completing investigations which may result in formal enforcement action including revoking licences and prosecution in the most serious cases.
We will be driving a much more ‘hands on’ aspect to the role, whereby officers are ‘patrolling’ the area to pro-actively identify breaches/addressing problems ‘there and then’ and ensuring a rapid response when necessary. The various activities will also be performed throughout the week and weekend.

Key skills and experience required;
There are three positions with different work patterns, which in brief are as follows:-
Officer 1 – 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday (Tuesday – Saturday every 4 weeks)
Officer 2 – 18.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday (Tuesday to Saturday every 4 weeks)
Officer 3 – 15 hours per week Friday and Saturday nights (into the early hours of the morning). These hours are condensed to provide a ‘week off’ every 8 weeks.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
