Licensing Compliance Officer - Hybrid Oxford - Town Hall/Work from home Closing Date: 12/08/2023

An opportunity has arisen for a Licensing Compliance Officer to join the General Licensing team at Oxford City Council.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out licensing compliance inspections in a timely and effective manner, processing submissions within the legal timelines, attend hearings and developing sustainable and long-term working relationships as part of a committed, forward thinking team.

In order to deliver the objectives of the Licensing Authority to uphold the needs of local businesses and communities and to promote Oxford as a world-class city offering a safe, modern and vibrant licensed trade, you will be self-motivated, adaptable and flexible in your approach to work. In addition, as you will work with a wide range of stakeholders including, customers, partners, elected members and licence holders, you will be an effective communicator and possess strong negotiation and influencing skills.

We intend to do the interviews in person (Town Hall, Oxford) but please let us know if you would prefer to request an online interview. For hybrid roles the successful applicant will be expected to work from home (at least partially). You should ensure that you have reliable and secure Wi-Fi access; a suitable workspace and are prepared to undertake distance learning and training.

Role Purpose

To effectively carry out licensing enforcements, compliance casework and projects within the General Licensing Team under the direction of the Team Manager and Senior Licensing Officers.

To investigate and respond to complaints concerning Licence Holders and Licensed Premises received from the general public, partnership agencies, elected members and licence holders. 

To write a Committee and Sub-Committee case reports and attend the relevant hearings.

To process licence applications under the Council’s regulatory role as a Licensing Authority for Taxi Licensing, Alcohol, Entertainment, Gambling, Sex Establishments, Scrap Metal and Road Closure functions.
