ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
East Staffordshire Borough Council is committed to creating a safe environment for those within the Borough and is looking to recruit an Enforcement Officer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of three Officers which deal with a wide remit from environmental crime, licensing enforcement, including licensed vehicles and premises through to anti-social behaviour.
The Enforcement Officers’ role is to provide a responsive, customer focussed service that helps improve the local environment quality, particularly in relation to environmental crime such as fly tipping, untidy land, accumulations of waste and waste disposal. Also in relation to Anti-Social Behaviour.
Officers will be required to respond to service requests from members of the public, internal departments and Council Members in an efficient and timely manner, managing their own workload. Officers are required to undertake inspections and undertake the appropriate enforcement action as necessary.
You should have excellent communication skills along with the ability to accurately record information for reports and witness statements, particularly as Officers are required to respond to clients and to present evidence in court.
You must hold a full driving licence and have use of a vehicle as the role requires Officers to cover the whole of the East Staffordshire Borough.
The successful candidate must have 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade A to C or equivalent.
Certificated qualifications in the areas of Anti-Social Behaviour enforcement and environmental crime would be desirable.
Applicants should ideally have previous experience of working in a Local Authority environment, working with residents, Council Members and other stakeholders and have experience of complaint investigation and resolution.
Basic IT skills are essential along with an understanding of applicable law and practice, and a willingness to keep up to date with legislation.
It is essential to be observant and have the ability to record information accurately during an investigation, remaining calm, polite and helpful when dealing with potentially difficult situations.
The hours of work are 37 hours per week working Monday to Friday. The position could also be part of a job share. The successful candidate must be able to work some additional evenings/weekends as required to cover planned inspections and initiatives.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has a commitment to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Basic Level Disclosure & Barring Service Check.
